Waifu Farmer is a digital asset collection game where participants discover QR codes hidden out in the world that are tied to a particular waifu character. Upon scanning the QR code the farmer can claim the waifu and hold them in their digital wallet. Waifus have different rarities based on their prowess in the anime world.
The digital wallet that holds waifus is by default an Ethereum-based wallet that is tied to the user's email using Privy. This allows the assets to exist as NFTs without the user needing to be concerned with annoying web3 interactions or knowledge. If the user wants to move the waifu NFT to their own wallet, they are able to do so. All waifu NFTs are minted free of charge to the user.
Artist's Intention
This project leans into cultural surface layers of modern technology. Waifus represent a large portion of AI image/video generation culture in that most models excel at producing such imagery and the nerd cult surrounding AI is additionally obsessed. It is not clear that the public understands these influential layers of AI culture in that we often focus on its influence on artists, social media reality, and professional creative work instead of these driving subcultures. These subcultures are less concerned with utilizing AI to shift industries and more driven to create indulgent assets for themselves and others. Waifu Farmer being NFT-enabled adds more strange concrete aspects to the idea that people are collecting these images and representations. NFTs give them real value that is both inherent and then defined by the market that surrounds them. In their current nascent form they have no value, but if enough people engage, then certain rare waifus could be incredibly valuable.
