About

Forever Stella morphs between various works of Frank Stella. The morphing was achieved by developing an automated workflow using the video diffusion model Wan 2.1 and its ability to animate between a start and end frame. The sound was produced by developing an algorithm that detected changes in pixels matched to different MIDI notes. Through this the more the piece changes, the more sound is produced.

Artist's Intention

This piece is designed to evoke an infinite feeling from imagery that is abstract and constrained. The colors and forms are quite clear, but the way they morph never feels the same. Even though this is merely a looping video with many morphs, the lack of grounding information and changes prevents one's working memory from discerning consistency. This is quite paradoxical given the simplistic nature of each art work, but it demonstrates the infinite space that exists between two even simple images. In turn, this piece also demonstrates the limiting nature of our working memory and our ability to clearly recall changes. It demonstrates that our memories are not as detailed oriented as we believe.
